Need

Over the past decade, God’s unmistakeable leading has been evident in the phenomenon of global Adventist youth revival toward evangelism. Spirit-led conferences have inspired young professionals to take ownership of their spiritual journey and pursue primitive Godliness in a lifestyle of service and deep consecration. Spiritual revival and the realisation of our distinctive Adventist identity shaped a response to greater commitment for mission. We knew why we choose to be Adventist.

Having been revived, we heard, saw and lived what it meant to be consecrated. Bible boot camps, preaching evangelistic seminars, starting small groups or volunteering for mission trips; we strove to make a lasting impact for God’s kingdom.

Yet there still exists an unmet need in this generation – to explore the how of Adventism.

Observations

In this divinely-appointed movement that continues, it becomes temptingly convenient to replicate another’s spiritual experience.

Opportunity

Inevitably, we are all youth for but a season; and God’s call to Kingdom service transcends all ages, phases of life or locations. Mission determines our core. It answers the why and our focus remains unchanged, till He comes. Identifying the what is a natural next step, in response to our high calling. Yet inevitably, we are all “youth” for but a season; and God’s call to service for the Kingdom transcends all ages, phases of life or locations.

Challenges

What happens when we enter a sphere of ministry or phase of life where there are no cookie cutter solutions or ‘templates’ from others to replicate – when the what is not necessarily prescribed?

Have we neglected to develop the how, the discipline and skillset that conceptualises and contextualises our why in years to come?
